On Friday 11 May 2007 a large
contingent of members from the
American Order of Oddfellows
visited London and spent an evening with members of the
North London District at Highbury Crescent Lodge Room.
The overseas visitors were from the Finnish Branch of the Oddfellows
and represented many Lodges within Finland.
Within the American Order,
members tend to segregate into male and female Lodges.
The Female Lodges are called Rebekah Lodges.
There are over 8,000 Oddfellows
in Finland and they roughly split equally between
Lodges conducted in Finnish and Lodges conducted in Swedish.
In addition they have one new Lodge in Estonia.
There are 57 Lodges for men and 48 Lodges for Ladies.
The evening consisted of the standard opening and closing of the Lodge
together with an initiation ceremony.
Guests were welcomed by the North London District Provincial Grand Master
-
Brother Deryck Williams.
He welcomed Brother Keith Adamson
- Deputy Grand Master of the Manchester Order.
