Duchess House - corner of Warren Street &
Grafton Mews
Lodge Room - August 2011
Over the years, many other Lodges have merged with it and in the 1990’s, members of the Duke of Bedford & Louisa Lodge, Lord Portman Lodge, and Westbourne Park Lodge together with two Women’s Lodges - Princess of Wales Lodge and Queens Park Lodge - joined to become the present Lodge family.
Our members are scattered throughout the United Kingdom and in many of the continents abroad.
When the Lodge was first established, it met in pubs and church halls but in the 1920’s, the Trustees decided to build a Lodge Room on the edge of the West End of London.
Duchess House was opened in 1929 and in the small Lodge Room on the ground floor, members could enjoy the traditions of the Society after work, before returning to their homes in the suburbs.
To provide an income, the Trustees built something that could be let for commercial purposes for offices or light industrial use. Several other Lodges also used the facilities.
The building stands on the corner of Warren Street and Grafton Mews. In 2005 the building was sold but the Lodge retained use of the ground floor Lodge Room. However, problems with the redevelopment of the whole site meant that Lodge Meetings had to be held at alternative venues for over three years.
In August 2011 work was completed on the Lodge room and associated facilities.
